And yet in Germany, we sometimes talk as if we could protect our prosperity, our security and our future by thinking smaller again.
The opposite is true.
Germany became economically strong because it was never just Germany.
Not isolated.
Not closed off.
Not against Europe.
But right at the center of Europe.
Open markets.
Free movement of goods.
Legal certainty.
Freedom of movement.
Reliable partnerships.
One shared economic area.
That is not a side issue.
That is the foundation.
Whoever attacks that foundation is not attacking some abstract idea.
They are attacking the basis of our prosperity.
And yes, I understand the frustration many people feel.
With politics, with stagnation, with arrogance, with the sense that real concerns are too often not truly heard.
But frustration must not send us in the wrong direction.
A weaker Europe will not make Germany stronger.
A more isolated Germany will not make Europe more stable.
And national reflexes do not solve problems that have long outgrown national borders.
Germany in particular carries responsibility.
Because Germany is still one of Europe’s economic anchors.
If this country starts to drift, the rest of the continent will feel it too.
That is why this is not the moment for less Europe.
It is the moment for a better Europe.
Clearer. More capable of acting. More courageous. Economically stronger. Technologically more sovereign. Closer to its people.
I am convinced of this:
A strong Germany needs a strong Europe.
And a strong Europe needs a strong Germany.

That is not a weakness.
That is our opportunity.

Und trotzdem reden wir in Deutschland manchmal so, als könnten wir unseren Wohlstand, unsere Sicherheit und unsere Zukunft im Zweifel auch wieder kleiner denken.
Das Gegenteil ist richtig.
Deutschland ist wirtschaftlich stark geworden, weil es nie nur Deutschland war.
Nicht isoliert.
Nicht abgeriegelt.
Nicht gegen Europa.
Sondern mitten in Europa.
Offene Märkte.
Freier Warenverkehr.
Rechtssicherheit.
Freizügigkeit.
Verlässliche Partnerschaften.
Ein gemeinsamer Wirtschaftsraum.
Genau das ist kein Nebenthema.
Genau das ist die Grundlage.
Wer diese Grundlage angreift, greift nicht irgendeine abstrakte Idee an.
Er greift das Fundament unseres Wohlstands an.
Und ja, ich verstehe den Frust vieler Menschen.
Über Politik, über Stillstand, über Arroganz, über das Gefühl, mit echten Sorgen zu oft nicht wirklich gemeint zu sein.
Aber Frust darf uns nicht in die falsche Richtung führen.
Ein schwächeres Europa macht Deutschland nicht stärker.
Ein isolierteres Deutschland macht Europa nicht stabiler.
Und nationale Reflexe lösen kein einziges Problem, das längst größer ist als nationale Grenzen.
Gerade Deutschland trägt Verantwortung.
Weil Deutschland wirtschaftlich noch immer ein Anker in Europa ist.
Wenn dieses Land ins Wanken gerät, bleibt das nicht folgenlos für den Rest des Kontinents.
Deshalb braucht es jetzt nicht weniger Europa.
Sondern ein besseres.
Klarer. Handlungsfähiger. Mutiger. Wirtschaftlich stärker. Technologisch souveräner. Näher an den Menschen.
Ich bin überzeugt davon:
Ein starkes Deutschland braucht ein starkes Europa.
Und ein starkes Europa braucht ein starkes Deutschland.
530 Millionen Menschen.
1 Kontinent.
Das ist keine Schwäche.
Das ist unsere Chance.
